28.04.22 / Start of construction of the sanitation facility in Battambang
Current situation in April 2022
At the moment, 180 students and 4 teachers share one toilet. We would like to change this for hygienic reasons. We have therefore decided to build a new sanitary facility.
TAG 1 - happy day - 28.04.2022
Today the groundbreaking ceremony was held by Martin Heimberg, our 2nd Chairman of the Cambodia Children's Aid Association eV and Udo Szepanski, Chairman of the School Support Association Oase eV
The soil is bone dry and very difficult to work. Excavation is done by hand because machines are not available or cannot be used.
Tag 2
Today, more material was delivered and the soil was further worked. This was in temperatures of 36 degrees Celsius. The workers are to be admired. Nevertheless, four locals are happy about the task. After Corona, once again a reliable source of income.
Tag 3
Two families have moved onto the property. They will work on the construction every day. They are poor migrant workers who move from construction site to construction site. They came with all their belongings and 5 kg of rice in their luggage. That was all they had. That is why we have now provided them with additional rice.
Tag 4
The pillars are being built. Our architect and construction manager checks each individual section. The large picture below clearly shows the future basin with a multi-chamber system for the waste water.
Tag 5
Concreting the chamber system and setting and fixing the support pillars. Temperatures of 35 degrees are still prevailing on the construction site.
